Project Supervisor

Reporting to: Project Manager
Responsible for: Project Archaeologists, volunteers
Location: Barnard Castle (preferred)

£22,750 – £24,500 pro rata pa (37.5 hours pw)

You will oversee fieldwork projects of a variety of types and scales and ensure projects are completed on time, to agreed budgets and to recognised professional standards. You will lead small teams to meet strict targets and deadlines and will have a sound knowledge of British commercial archaeology and the planning process. Experience of commercial excavation and of contributing to risk assessments and WSIs, and post-excavation reporting is essential. If you are not already a member of CIfA, you will work towards accreditation, for which support will be provided.

Essential:

  • Experience supervising a range of archaeological fieldwork
  • Experience of managing small teams
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MSOffice programmes
  • Willingness and aptitude to train and mentor others
  • A personable and proactive approach
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel and to work away.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience of archaeological report writing
  • A degree in archaeology or a related subject
  • Good working knowledge of electronic survey using total station/GPS CSCS Card
  • SSTS Card
  • Experience of working with QGIS
  • CIfA membership

Heritage Consultant

Reporting to: Technical Director – Heritage and Archaeology
Responsible for: Trainees
Location: Northeast England

£23,000 – £24,500 pro rata pa (37.5 hours pw)

You will work to deliver first class consultancy services for projects of a variety of types and scales as part of our consultancy team. The post holder will have knowledge of UK planning legislation and will assist in the delivery of heritage services for built heritage and archaeology. They will have experience of writing technical documentation such as heritage statements, desk-based assessments, heritage impact assessments, and so forth. The post holder will work as part of a team to ensure effective delivery of reporting, in accordance with company procedures and to recognised professional standards. They will be self-motivated and an excellent communicator, with a professional and courteous manner.

Essential:

  • A degree in a heritage related subject
  • Knowledge of archaeology and heritage related legislation and policy, as applied in the UK
  • Experience of working with GIS packages
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • H&S awareness
  • Experience of producing desk-based assessments
  • Knowledge and experience of archaeological and/or built heritage investigation and mitigation techniques.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to drive for work

Desirable:

  • A post-graduate qualification in an appropriate subject
  • Membership of a relevant organisation e.g. MCIfA, IHBC etc.
  • Experience of mitigation design
  • CSCS Card
