Two wells, one site. It’s rare enough just having one well, so finding two wells on this medieval site in Northeast England is just amazing! Both have been packed with dating material (pottery, roof tile etc), one also contained the backend of a horse and one had been repaired and capped with a late medieval or early post medieval mill stone! Just when we thought the surprises were over, the bottom of one of the wells revealed what we think is a largely intact wooden bucket!
More updates to come, but we’re well chuffed (sorry)!
