We’re hiring! Experienced Project Supervisor/Project Officer wanted

With a busy forward programme, we are looking for an engaged an enthusiastic Experienced Project Supervisor or Project Officer to join our team and lead on fieldwork projects across the UK, with a particular focus on projects in England and Wales. We are a small and close-knit team and finding the right fit is important to us, so although we are looking for candidates with suitable experience, there are no time served requirements. 

You will be contracted from our office in Barnard Castle, which is the base for our fieldwork and logistics team in England and the location for equipment, finds and archiving, but when reporting you may, by arrangement, work from any of our regional offices, or from home. 

We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have a strong record of reporting. The role will also include supporting trainees and more junior staff with their development and occasional supervision of subcontracted staff. 

We have a mixture of ‘home’ sites in the northeast and ‘away’ working in Scotland, the midlands, south and southwest on the immediate programme. For those sites that require working away from home, accommodation and subsistence are provided. Where hire vehicles are not provided, mileage is paid in line with our company policy.

Essential for the role: 

  • A personable and proactive approach 
  • Experience supervising a range of archaeological fieldwork 
  • Experience of managing small teams 
  • Good working knowledge of electronic survey using total station/GPS etc 
  • Excellent organisational skills 
  • Demonstrable experience of archaeological report writing 
  • Strong working knowledge of MSOffice programmes 
  • Willingness and aptitude to train and mentor others 
  • Full driving licence  

Desirable: 

  • A degree in archaeology or a related subject 
  • CSCS Card (we will support you to gain this if you do not have a current qualification) 
  • SSTS Card 
  • Experience of working with QGIS 

Role and benefits: 

  • 37.5 hour working week. 
  • 20 days annual leave, plus public holidays, paid holiday during end of year office shutdown (last year an additional 3 days of paid leave) and an extra day of extra leave on your birthday
